Position:     Registered Nurse

Full-time and Part-time

Exempt

SUMMARY
Serves MHY residents comprised of at-risk-youth between the ages of 11-17 who are at risk of abuse or neglect, have been abused or neglected, have serious emotional, mental or behavioral disturbances, and are involved in the juvenile justice system.  Coordinates the psychiatric medication program and services for all residents and assists with in-house direction and training regarding the same.  Modest scheduling flexibility required. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Organizes residents’ visits with contracted psychiatrist.
  • Coordinates new medication orders with the pharmacy to ensure the timely delivery of all prescribed medications.
  • Maintains a master list of all psychotropic medications in use for reference by both the RN and staff therapists. 
  • Coordinates all psychiatric reports with staff therapists including initial assessments, best practice evaluations, and requested staffing for residents.
  • Directly or through the LPN, coordinates all medical appointments for MHY residents. 
  • Performs all initial physical assessments on new admissions, as well as discharge physical exams, if necessary.
  • Provides basic triage services to residents, as needed. 
  • Conducts staff training on medication management, including hands-on instruction and supervision as a function of staff orientation. 
  • Reviews all medication errors and follows-up with staff that have committed errors to review and observe appropriate processes.
  • Directly or through the LPN, leads the strategic health initiatives for residents. 
  • Participates in group and team meetings, as necessary.
  • Reports to the Director any programming inconsistencies, conflicts or uncommon problems which arise. 
  • service needs in throughout local counties.
  • Represents MHY on external committees and organizations at the local, county, and state levels.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises the LPN. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Unrestricted PA RN license and a minimum of 3 years of prior clinical experience, preferably in a direct care environment.  Must be 21 years of age with current Act 33/34 Clearances.  Current PA state driver’s license with an insurable driving record required.  Must possess demonstrated PC skills including common MS Office applications.
